Preface
The man behind the penetrating observations recorded in this series is Alias O. Teur, alias Alias Author. The writer is a long-time resident of our beloved Orange County. He mostly is known for his The Lives and Times of Mr Sir Orange, also published at this site.
Alias also dipped into art historical critical matters in particular the controversial issue of Rembrandt’s eyesight in relation to his innovative manner of painting.
His interest in art is neither incidental nor accidental. Alias as a teenager developed a passion for art. While his classmates neatly did their homework at the elite school he was privileged to be enrolled in Alias set his mind on a different track. He made drawings and painting in large numbers. Similarly offtrack he ventured into literary writing. And he read. Book after book.
Life in rural Coma posed particular challenges to Alias. Cut off from the stimulating artistic and intellectual environment of his Alma Mater he now had to seek avenues to publish and exhibit his work stationed at an apparently dull county capital of an apparently equally dull countryside.
How false such image is! Life in Coma, dear readers, is not what it appears to be. Alias in these short accounts digs beyond the superficial dullness of daily life events to unearth a depth of human emotion and interaction shocking to those enacting it. I need to warn you: While Alias may try to humour you he only does so to expose what is hidden under the the trivialities of daily life.
Lastly, reader: Alias for a long time is known to be deeply committed to our community, as is best shown by his design of our marvelous Orange County flag. You see it in the header of this preface. In our flag orange is the dominating colour. Why? Because our county is named Orange County. Orange, county men and women, stands for joy. The joy of living. The bottom green horizontal belt stands for our land; the land we live on, cultivate and which is abundantly blessed with natural beauty. The blue is our wondrous sky. Our Orange Society is located between heaven and earth. The vertical black stave at left is a reminder of the timeless feature of life: We are born to die. Life and Death are sides of the same coin. Our actions, however, survive us and deliver us mortals virtual afterlife. Enjoy your reading!
