FOREWORD
Art Making Sense is conceived as a series of ten texts about art and art related subjects for art students and art practitioners with a taste for academia.
I publish the texts as these become available - some are edited versions of earlier publications, others are new appearances. The texts can be read in any order. In total they provide hopefully a broad, cross-cultural understanding of what art is and how it does what it does.
These texts are subject to normal copy right regulations. Quotations and references in publications must state the source of these references or quotations.
The first published text is titled Kandinsky Revisited: a note on abstract art. This text has originally been published in 2016 in the Art in Zambia Blog.
The second text is What is Art? Part 1: In Western Culture. It constitutes Chapter 1.
The third is The Work of the Artist. Part 1 published 28 Sept 2020.
